Leanne Morris quote
Dr. Leanne Morris

How many years have you been practicing medicine?

I finished medical school in 2010, residency in 2014 and fellowship in 2016. I have been practicing since 2016.

Why did you choose to focus your practice on pediatrics?

It’s the best! Kids are so strong and resilient, and pediatric medicine is full of moments of magic. Working in a hospital, I often meet families in a situation they did not ask to be in, and it’s so inspiring to witness caregivers rise to the occasion, do so much for their kids and be so strong. I recently had a family waiting for the team on rounds every day with a new practical joke in the room – it reinforced everything I love about pediatrics.

What do you find most satisfying about your work?

So many things. It’s such an honour to help families navigate the scary world of having a sick child and so rewarding to be a part of their recovery. I also love working with learners at all levels and getting the opportunity to share what I think matters the most in medicine as well as getting to learn from them. Honestly, this work is a privilege, and I’m grateful I get to do it!

Final thoughts

When it comes to work, Dr. Morris doesn’t view pediatrics as just a job – it’s a calling and an honour. She gets to help heal her patients on their worst days during illness or struggle, and she gets to watch them grow and thrive on their best days.
