Kathleen Xu is a medical student at the University of Alberta. Her interest in psychology and neuroscience guides her academic path and shapes the way she sees the world. She is passionate about addressing the social stigma around mental health, which is a strong motivator for her advocacy work at her university with the student initiative, Mental Health Advocates.
Kathleen had the opportunity to lead the planning committee of the 14th Alberta Medical Students’ Conference and Retreat (AMSCAR), an event that promotes the development of resiliency among future Albertan doctors while highlighting the importance of a well-rounded definition of health.
In her spare time, she enjoys learning about history and philosophy to understand how other people before us have shaped the world we live in today. She has a great interest in food culture, particularly how climate and social forces shape the sustenance we choose and how culinary tradition is inextricably linked to our identities.
