Dr. Muna Kamal began practicing family medicine just four years ago. Immediately after completing her family medicine residency in 2019, she hopped into practice and began working with patients of any age and stage of life with an array of health conditions and needs.

Noted in her nomination letter, “I believe she is a shining example of a great family physician.” Dr. Kamal is known for her upbeat attitude and vast knowledge; she is eager to find multiple ways to tackle her patients' medical issues and discuss every option to ensure an optimal path forward. “She is one of the best physicians I have ever had.”

We asked Dr. Kamal a few questions about her specialty and what she loves about her work.

Muna Kamal quote
Dr. Muna Kamal

Why did you choose to focus your practice on family medicine?

I chose family medicine primarily because I enjoy being able to provide that continuity of care to patients with different medical conditions and of different ages. I love the diversity that this profession brings and that I can see the progress patients make throughout my care. I’m able to create meaningful relationships with my patients; I am able to get to know them as individuals and how a medical condition affects them in different aspects of their lives.

It is a challenging job in today’s day and age but it’s an extremely fulfilling job when you become that primary but also central source of contact when dealing with different specialists. I feel honoured to provide care in multiple areas, from prenatal patients to pediatric patients, all the way to geriatric care patients.

What do you find most satisfying about your work?

What I find most satisfying about my work as a family physician and what brings me incredible joy is when patients can see me as a source of support, knowledge base and an advocate for their health and well-being. The relationships I am able to build with my patients and their families are such a unique part of being a family physician, which I absolutely love. Essentially, over time, I feel like patients end up seeing their family physician as a family member, which is such an incredible feeling.
