Let’s get to know Dr. Idowu.
I went to medical school in Nigeria and graduated in 2009. I moved to Canada in 2014 and did my residency at the University of Calgary. I now practice family medicine in a northwest Calgary clinic.
I wanted a practice where I could really connect with my patients. I like that I can follow them from childhood to old age. I think those long-term relationships with patients are unique to family medicine, and the longer I practice, the more I know it was the right choice for me.
It’s satisfying. I might be exhausted at the end of the day, but I know I am making a difference for my patients. One day that might be catching a life-threatening illness early even though the patient hadn’t yet felt the symptoms. The next day it could be a patient leaving the clinic feeling a lot better after I saw they were feeling down about their health and needed some encouragement.
It’s a true honour to be nominated. It’s special when a patient takes the time out of their day to submit a nomination that acknowledges the difference I have made for them.
