Dr. Jackson, the author of Dr. Gadget in Alberta Doctor’s Digest, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary who has been practicing as a full-service teaching family physician for more than 30 years.

His keen interest in the application of technology to medicine led to his use of electronic medical records in rural Alberta since 1984 and early adoption of various forms of mobile technology over the years.  He has been a member of several provincial committees associated with the evolution of information technology and Alberta Netcare and currently is the Medical Lead of Advanced Technology and Infrastructure in the Department of Family Medicine.

Through these interests, he has been involved in the development and dissemination of the first online clinical pathway in Alberta (the CKD pathway). He was instrumental in the development of a mobile app which allows rapid access to curated primary care resources used by learners and primary care providers throughout Alberta.  He has presented at local, provincial and national conferences on the use of technology in medicine.  He continues to be interested in how technology may improve health care provider learning, teaching, and patient care.
